I create models in clay or wax and then invest it in a refractory material. The mold is then packed with powder and sugar crystal sizes of glass called frits. The mold will go through a slow cycle of heating, annealing and cooling until the piece is formed into the shape of the original model. Once removed from the mold it is ready to be cleaned and cold worked to completion. Spring or winter it can be quite inspirational in the Pacific Northwest. |
